Hussmann, a Panasonic company, has expanded its refrigeration systems offering with the Protocol® CO2, the newest innovation in its Evolve Technologies Portfolio. adding CO₂ to the supermarket system. The Protocol CO2 is the newest model in the Protocol® family, which is known for its revolutionary, compact design that reduces refrigerant charge.
Hussmann introduced its first Protocol model in 1993, aligning with the Montreal Protocol—a global agreement to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production and consumption of ozone-depleting substances. The Protocol CO2 is the newest model in the Protocol® family, which is known for its revolutionary, compact design that reduces refrigerant charge. The Protocol CO2 will continue to deliver the same efficiency and energy standards that the Protocol is known for, with the use of a natural refrigerant.
The Protocol CO2 integrates a new medium-temperature compressor with direct vapor injection and features a variable-speed scroll technology for capacity modulation and greater energy efficiency. In addition to the unique compressor features, the Protocol CO₂ will also incorporate an economizer to reduce gas cooler return temperatures to further improve efficiency.
Part of Hussmann’s Evolve Technologies portfolio, the Protocol CO2 operates with a natural refrigerant, R-744 (which is the refrigerant grade title for CO2). R-744/CO₂ has a global warming potential (GWP) of 1 and an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0, providing an ideal refrigeration solution for store remodel programs with the lowest possible environmental impact.
