New industrial refrigeration product unlocks cold room capacity

India, the world’s 2nd largest producer of seafood, has increased production by 88% to 18.4 million tonnes over the last decade and targets exceeding 40 million tonnes by 2047, signaling a massive potential for cold chain solutions and export.

Danfoss India’s newly launched game-changer solution, ‘NeoCharge,’ unlocks up to 50% more cold room capacity while reducing energy costs by up to 20%, all with the same refrigerant charge.

Under the government’s Viksit Bharat@2047 vision, India aims to cross 20 million tonnes of seafood production by 2030 and exceed 40 million tonnes by 2047, alongside increasing its share of global seafood exports to over 8%. These ambitious targets highlight the growing need for scalable, sustainable, and energy-efficient cold chain infrastructure across the seafood value chain.

Mr. Madhur Sehgal, Head—of Danfoss Climate Solutions Sales, India Region, added, “NeoCharge is clearly a game changer for the industrial refrigeration segment because it significantly reduces the refrigerant charge in new systems by up to 50%. This provides a major advantage by enhancing the safety of ammonia refrigeration plants. NeoCharge can also be used in older plants for retrofit applications. In these cases, we can increase the capacity of cold storage while using the same amount of refrigerant.”

India has emerged as the second-largest producer of seafood globally, contributing 8.92% to global seafood production and ranking sixth in marine seafood output with a 5% share worldwide.
