Ziehl-Abegg is a “Trademark of German Tradition”

Künzelsau-based company honoured with the international Plus X Award

Ziehl-Abegg is now permitted to use the title “Trademark of German Tradition.” This honour is bestowed by the Plus X Award to German brands that have shown commitment to traditional values for decades or even, in some cases, for over a century. The Plus X Award is the world’s biggest prize for innovation in technology, sports and lifestyle. “The name of Ziehl-Abegg has been symbolic with durable and efficient electric motors for over 100 years,” explains Chairman of the Board, Peter Fenkl.

Emil Ziehl founded the company in Berlin in 1910 with the Swiss engineer Eduard Abegg. Abegg left after just one year because he was unable to turn his technical ideas into reality. So it was left to Emil Ziehl alone to build the company into an enterprise with a workforce of several thousand. Following a hiatus during World War II, the company was rebuilt in southern Germany. The philosophy proclaimed by Emil Ziehl, of producing durable and efficient electric motors, formed the basis for the company’s subsequent long-term success. Ziehl-Abegg SE is still entirely family-owned and not listed on the stock exchange. “This award posthumously recognizes the entrepreneurial spirit of Emil Ziehl and his penchant for technology”, says Peter Fenkl.

“A model form of brand management not only forms the backbone of our German economy, but also makes an unparalleled contribution to ‘Brand Germany.’ It is not just part of our economic culture, our striving for excellence, but represents the very credibility, transparency and strength needed to drive great ideas and innovations which enable German ideas and German corporate governance to set the trend for the global markets,” explains founder and President of the Plus X Award, Donat Brandt.

The industry-neutral experts of the Plus X Award jury have specific criteria in mind for awarding the title of “Trademark of German Tradition.” They want to honor companies with enduring spirits, ones that have defied all odds; companies that have always, first and foremost, taken their customers’ wishes and needs into account. In addition, all of the companies awarded have shown a sense of responsibility for their customers, employees and partners for decades. The companies chosen have enduring values that have had a major, positive influence on their industry and have continually applied these values to revitalize their brand.
