Automation and Cold Chain Warehousing | Thermal Control Magazine | HVAC Forum

Automation involves the automatic handling of equipment of pallets or boxes in warehouses, like stacker cranes and multi-sensing autonomous vehicles and indoor intralogistics. Cold chains involving temperature-sensitive commodities must be maintained at specific temperatures from the point of origin to the point of consumption to prevent spoilage. Automation in warehousing to load and unload during cold chain is used to maintain and extend the life of commodities and pharmaceutical products.

The large warehouses carry different temperature zones. Hence, continuous temperature monitoring is essential to check the temperature at which goods are stored and the actual condition of these goods. RFID technology for cold chain applications and software for cold chain warehousing provide growth opportunities for the market players. According to the International Institute of Refrigeration, the demand for heat-sensitive health products such as drugs, vaccines, insulin, and blood products is rising globally every year. For the better utilization of warehouses, complete control over equipment can be achieved by adopting automation, including robotic equipment.

Thermal Control Business Update hosted a roundtable conference on “Automation and Cold Chain Warehousing” on June 8th, 2023. During the 90-minute session, cold chain professionals discussed the potential opportunities for improving logistics development, boosting capacity, cooling technologies, innovative equipment, and the growth prospects of automation in the cold chain.
