Johnson Controls-Hitachi has recently welcomed the government’s move to lift lockdown in a phase-wise manner with certain considerable relaxations in Red, Orange and Green zones. The authorities now seem to me keen on an economic start. As the lockdown has been extended by two more weeks till 17th May, the whole country has some 800 districts divided in Red/Orange/Green Zones based on the spread of infection in those districts. Although all the major cities which are hubs of commercial and business activities are under the Red Zone. However the state governments are trying hard to open up the business within the guidelines issued by the central government. While public health and safety have always been paramount in the minds of the government, we are witnessing economic revival measures also getting equal weightage.

“Following government guidelines and abiding by the approved list of activities, Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning India Ltd. has been able to successfully start its operations with utmost safety measures. We have fully sanitized and opened our Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur offices today following operational guidelines of 33% staff strength. Our Delhi office started with a very thin attendance as many staff members come from other areas around Delhi and movement is still restricted in these areas. The borders of Delhi are sealed and therefore no one but for essential service is allowed to cross borders. Our another regional office at Gurgaon, next to Delhi has also opened today with a skeleton staff”, said Gurmeet Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning India Limited.

He further expressed gratitude on behalf of their employees, who are very excited to come to office after a long stay at home. “There is a very positive and vibrant atmosphere at all our offices. Even their family members are happy to see them going to office as it is a strong indication that life is now getting back to normal. This would improve further as the news about ease in reaching spreads. Police personnel were also supportive and allowed people to reach offices if the cause of travel is explained properly. The government order of allowing private vehicles carrying passengers to work has been well understood till the last point. We have observed this in Delhi and have received almost similar feedback from all the offices that have opened. We have also resumed operations smoothly at our manufacturing facility in Kadi, Gujarat. We started with around 350 operators today and expecting the full workforce to join from tomorrow. Considering the inventory stock, Room AC production may not happen for at least next few days of opening. Some export orders need to be produced and we will leverage our workforce to complete the orders on priority. We are going to address the supply chain issue by following a very high level of indigenization in the raw materials.”
