The data center will use 20 Kelvion dry coolers, each 10 meters long and equipped with 16 fans, to ensure long-term cooling and frost protection. The structure has 10,500 square meters of space and a total IT load of 30 MW.

A new data center in Frankfurt puts sustainability first with 20 highly energy-efficient Kelvion dry coolers. Mainova WebHouse, a subsidiary of Mainova, one of Germany’s leading energy suppliers, is responsible for the new facility, scheduled to debut this summer. It will be powered entirely by renewable energy from an installed solar power system, as well as waste heat from other nearby buildings.

Mainova WebHouse employed a novel method of heat rejection on the roof to ensure the data center’s long-term cooling. Instead of using the industrial water/glycole standard, dry coolers with a fully water-based technology saved significantly on energy costs.Because the dry cooler will function in Frankfurt, Germany, frost protection is essential. Kelvion’s dry coolers met all of the requirements for durability and dependability, including a freeze prevention mechanism.

Kelvion’s R&D and production teams collaborated to develop a bespoke heat exchange solution. Following satisfactory tests, 20 units were delivered, each measuring 10 meters long and equipped with 16 fans. “Each of the new coolers achieves the same performance with 16 fans, compared to the competition’s solution with 18 fans, which results in lower operating costs,” stated Björn Stemmann, Kelvion’s SVP Sales & Service Northern Europe. “The emphasis on sustainability in the new data center is part of Mainova WebHouse’s decarbonisation strategy. The new data center offers 10,500 square meters of space across two buildings and has a total IT load of 30MW.Kelvion is well-positioned in green and high-tech sectors, and we are confident that our energy-efficient heat exchange solutions give the finest support for businesses addressing global climate concerns.”
